La Finca Oropesa doesn't open tomorrow. It is being built, stone by stone, among 1,200 olive trees — some of them a century old — planted long before us. When it opens, in spring 2027, there will be fifteen suites, a table cooking what the land gives, and a place built for doing nothing — and having that be enough.
The place, in a few facts
- The land
- 1,200 olive trees, some of them a century old, in the first foothills of the Sierra de Gredos.
- The Roman road
- The village takes its name from the Roman road that linked Mérida to Toledo and ran through here.
- An oil tradition
- La Calzada de Oropesa once had five olive mills. The grove belongs to that history.
- The castle nearby
- A few kilometres away, the fortress of Oropesa became, in 1930, the first Parador in Spain set inside a historic monument.
- The interior designer
- The interiors will be designed by Tomás Alía, born in Lagartera, the next village over. Spain's National Interior Architecture Prize winner, he has always worked with the crafts of this land: Talavera ceramics, Lagartera embroidery, blown glass and wrought iron.
